Jamaica offers reggae culture, the Blue Mountains and beautiful Caribbean beaches. For travelers with celiac disease, traditional jerk seasoning (scallions, scotch bonnet peppers, allspice, thyme and garlic) is naturally gluten-free, but shared jerk pans and busy resort kitchens need care. As of our last check on 2026-Oct-20, the big all-inclusive brands here, Sandals and Beaches, handle celiac guests in shared kitchens rather than separate gluten-free ones.

Jamaican Celiac Highlights

  • Jerk: Authentic jerk chicken and pork with traditional rubs are naturally gluten-free, as long as no commercial soy sauce or wheat filler goes into the marinade.
  • Resorts: Sandals and Beaches have resorts in Montego Bay, Ocho Rios and Negril.

How Sandals and Beaches Handle Celiac Guests

Sandals (couples) and its sister brand Beaches (families) are both based in Jamaica and run resorts across the Caribbean. Sandals lets guests flag dietary needs before they arrive so the resort can plan, and many celiac travelers report good experiences. We found no published evidence of physically separate gluten-free kitchens, though, so we treat these resorts as shared kitchens that cater on request, not dedicated facilities. Some guest reports also say gluten-free items like bread, pancakes or pizza need a special request rather than being on hand.

Before you book any Sandals or Beaches resort, email the specific resort and ask:

  • Is gluten-free food cooked in a separate area, with its own pans and utensils?
  • Are fryers used only for gluten-free food?
  • How are buffet items labeled, and can the chef plate your food from the kitchen instead?
  • Which restaurants and snack bars can cater to you, and do you need to book them?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is authentic Jamaican jerk chicken gluten-free?

Traditional jerk marinades use scotch bonnet peppers, scallions, thyme and spices without wheat. Some cooks add commercial soy sauce, though, so always ask, and check that it isn't cooked on a grill shared with breaded food.

How we check: each listing shows its kitchen tier and when we last checked it. "Confirmed" means the property answered our 10-point kitchen questionnaire in writing. Kitchens and menus change, so always tell the property about celiac disease before you arrive.
